After the new scientific report by IMARPE and the management plan for the present squid, the authorities issued a complementary extension to the regulation. The period from January 1st to August 31st, 2025, has been established with a Maximum Total Allowable Catch (MTAC) of 290,000 for the newly defined timeframe.
In recent months, there have been encouraging signs. Oceanographic conditions have improved, and captures have stabilized, which has prompted authorities to increase the quota and extend the period for its sustainable use.
This measure brings positive expectations to the sector, as squid is the second most important fishery resource in the country and a vital source of income for thousands of fishermen and processing companies. The adjustment is expected to boost activity and strengthen the sustainability of the resource under an orderly management framework.
