SIGNS OF OVERFISHING OF CERTAIN SPECIES COULD MEAN A NEW REDUCTION OF CATCHING QUOTAS IN EUROPE.

There have been many issues recently in the Northeast Atlantic. From one side, you have a political struggle that includes suspicion of espionage between Norway and Russia, that is ending with the cancellation of the program for protection and management of cod fishing that these two countries had altogether, and that undoubtfully can put in danger the sustainability of this species.

Another problem is the lack of agreement for a multi-national management of mackerel, that at the end could be read as a lack of willingness; and even worse could be the case of blue whiting, that some institutions like The International Council for the Exploration of the Seas (ICES) is finding that its past quotas could have been oversized; the consequence for these species caught by many countries is that now their stock biomass could be in decline, and requiring harder measures to be implemented.
