Peru’s First 2026 anchovy season in the North-Central zone was authorized by PRODUCE with a Total Allowable Catch of 1’914,049 metric tons, the lowest quota of the past decade, excluding 2023, when the first season was ultimately not carried out. PRODUCE stated that the decision was based on IMARPE’s scientific recommendations and on the need to preserve the stock under complex biological and oceanographic conditions.

Within the sector, the quota was viewed as reasonable; however, uncertainty remains as to how much of that volume can actually be harvested at sea, depending on real operating conditions.

Activities will start on April 08th under the doubts created by El Niño warm event.
