Another big aquaculture company planning to invest in Seriola farming (instead of bluefin tuna).

A  Norwegian company (Nortuna) is planning to change farmed species from Atlantic bluefin tuna, to a kind of  yellowtail fish , of the  Seriola rivoliana species.  The farm would be located in the Tropical Atlantic, near Cabo Verde.

Among the considerations for this new strategy, are that this species has  faster growth (they say even faster than salmon), a clear market in development, and easier reproduction and hatchery. In Japan it is very popular and is also widely farmed.

We have to remember that this fish is present also in northern Peru as is one of the Fortuno fish group of the Seriola genus. While other nations make efforts to expand the fish farming business, in Peru this promising species has not enough investigation for culture, as far as we know.
