CFEED triples copepod egg production capacity in Norway

Norwegian biotech firm CFEED (Copepod Feed) has announced a major expansion of its copepod egg production facility in Vanvikan, Norway, tripling its capacity to meet rising demand from the aquaculture industry.

The company specializes in producing live hatchable Acartia tonsa copepod eggs, a premium feed for larval fish. The new facility was inaugurated with the participation of Norway’s State Secretary for the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Fisheries.

CEO of the company emphasized that this expansion is not just about scaling up but also about delivering greater efficiency and sustainability to global hatcheries. Sales and Marketing Director added that the facility enhances CFEED’s ability to produce high-quality microalgae, essential for maintaining the exceptional nutritional value of their copepods.

According to company representatives, copepods closely replicate the natural diet of larval fish, boosting survival rates, reducing deformities, and minimizing disease risks. Unlike other feeds, they require no artificial enrichment, making them both healthier and more sustainable.

Founded in 2014 by marine biologists from SINTEF Ocean, CFEED has grown into a global leader in live feed for aquaculture, helping shape the future of sustainable fish farming.

We must recall that copepods of the same families are also a main component of the zooplankton that are anchovy feeds in.
