Fishing in Peru: Four Key Changes in Regulation

Fishing in Peru is taking a new direction with the update to the General Fisheries Law Regulation, which aims to promote greater equity in access to hydrobiological resources. This adjustment establishes four key points.

Firstly, the concept of "predominance of manual labor" is redefined, making a clear distinction with artisanal fishing, with the goal of protecting more traditional fishing activities.

The second important change is the exclusivity within the first three nautical miles. Approximately 60,000 fishermen will be the only ones authorized to operate in this area, allowing for better control and sustainable use of resources.

Finally, the third and fourth changes focus on the five nautical miles, which will be declared a "protected area for flora and fauna." This measure will ensure the conservation of marine ecosystems by limiting fishing activities in these sensitive areas.

With these reforms, a fairer and more sustainable management of marine resources is expected in the country, promoting environmental protection and the well-being of local fishermen.
