In Peru, in recent days, a marked increase in water temperature has been observed, intensifying the previously reported warming. This situation generates growing alarm in the fishing industry. Several oceanic factors are converging in a scenario where the extent of the consequences is still unknown. Scientists indicate that it could be a short-lived event, but it could also be dangerous.
ENFEN (Peruvian scientific team) has established an "Alert for a Coastal El Niño" (an event confined to this side of the Pacific; La Niña currently prevails in the Central Equatorial Pacific). High temperature masses are observed in the sea (more than 3°C above historical records) in many areas of the first miles of the North and Central regions.
