The National Authority for Fisheries and Aquaculture Health and Safety (Sanipes) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) have strengthened their collaboration to implement the project “Smart and Sustainable Aquaculture through Effective Biosecurity and Digital Technology” in Tumbes. This initiative aims to improve aquaculture in the region through the use of advanced technologies and innovative management tools.
During a recent meeting, FAO representatives provided updates on the installation of water quality sensors in shrimp farming centers. The installation is expected to be completed in the first half of March, which will allow real-time monitoring of water conditions and the detection of variations that could affect the health of the shrimp.
Additionally, the creation of a data management system was agreed upon to generate early alerts about disease outbreaks and environmental changes that could harm production. This system will strengthen producers' response and prevention capabilities, promoting sustainability and competitiveness in regional aquaculture.
The meeting was attended by the president of Sanipes, Mónica Saavedra, and several international experts from the FAO.
